Urban Frontiers Mission began in 1989 as a group of friends in a Bible study who asked themselves, “If Jesus lived in our city today, where would He be?” This led them to begin reaching out to commercial sex workers in brothels.

This outreach gradually evolved into an urban ministry.
The ministry of UFM brings the great news of Jesus’ love to women in prostitution, people struggling with drug and alcohol addictions, teen mothers, ex-convicts, the homeless, those affected by HIV/AIDS, the mentally ill, at-risk youth, abandoned children and others who desperately need Jesus to heal and restore their shattered lives.

The vision of UFM is to help those who are spiritu-ally and materially destitute to be be reconciled to God through faith in Christ and reconciled to men, thus becoming productive members of society.

As people come to faith in Christ from lifestyles such as prostitution, alcoholism and crime, they face many challenges. Usually they must move away from their old friends and environments and into places conducive for spiritual growth. For this reason UFM provides them with accommodation where they live with UFM staff and are discipled until they are strong enough to stand on their own. Most have never had legitimate jobs before and do not have any marketable job skills. So, along with discipleship UFM has a rehabilitation and training programme which aims to equip them to be responsible and productive members of society. Training is provided in areas such as computer applications and sewing.

The mission of UFM is to show Christ’s compassion to the harassed and helpless in the urban world through evangelism, meeting physical need, discipleship and rehabilitation in order that they may experience freedom and maturity in Christ.

Mark 2:17 “Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Isaiah 61:1-2 “… He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives… to bestow on them a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”

Matthew 25:37-40 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you soemthing to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The king will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’.”
